Virtualization

Server virtualization means taking dedicated server hardware and using specialized software to “partition” or divide that server into several "virtual servers," each of which can run their own copy of an operating system.

When you partition one server into several virtual machines, you can operate and manage multiple operating systems at once, thereby reducing the number of physical servers a company must house on its premises.  Virtualization can also help cut down on energy consumption, since there are fewer computers consuming power.
